hita_habibti asked the question:
Salaam, My last name is Khanjian and I know very little about my family. Can anyone tell me about my surname? I.E. Where in Armenia the Khanjians came from and if they held any political or social importance?

Usually I’d say you have to go do the research and figure it out, but in this case, the answer is they were Armenian, but living in Urmiah, Persia and Diarbekir, Syria before they came to the US. So there’s no way to find out their hometown. There were only three Armenians named Khanjian who came to the US. The others with that surname were all Palestinians. Of course, the borders in 1916 were much different in that region than they are today, but that’s as much as we can find from the US unless you pull their Declaration of Intent and Naturalization petitions from NARA.
Are you certain your ancestry traces back to present day Armenia (or just assuming so because the last name is of Armenian origin)? Either way, I would check out the geneology sites here, and add any more information that you may know (like first names, timelines, countries appicable to your ancestors histories) to help trigger some feedback.
Good luck!
