Because communism IS bad.
Hey I grew up being taught that the Native Americans were the bad guys! History is very subjective. You just can’t take the words of what the teacher teaches. You have to find out the reality of it for yourself.
When I asked my grandmother that (born in St. Petersburg, survived the blockade) she says that it’s leftover fear from the Cold War. At that time, the Soviet Union was the only place that could stand up to America, and they probably still can. Fear mixed with ignorance. Your teacher should be fired for making comments like that… I would go complain.
LOL I went through my communist/ Marxist phase when I was 16-18 . IMO communism would be an ideal government in a perfect world .
Your teacher is just a red blooded Yankee … Americans live in fear of communism and socialism.
Communism is a nice theory, it’s very idealistic - Marx believed that every man would do his best because he wanted to contribute to the well-being of society and to his country. Unfortunately Bolshevik communism was not what Marx imagined: since people had no incentives, they did not work hard, which resulted in substandard production and a low quantity of food for a lot of people.
The leaders got corrupt and started stealing from the public. That’s why the Soviet Union collapsed - lack of money. They started investing in arms instead of in the people.
Why do you feel offended? Do you remember Armenia? From what I’ve read it was not very good.
However, it doesn’t sound appropriate for a teacher to refer to the Bolsheviks as “stinky” or “losers.” In fact, it sounds very unprofessional.
Communism in deed was bad, and from many points of view ! On one hand communists destroyed farmers by gathering them into big farms, which operated like some kind of concentration camps; on the other hand workers for which the “revolution” was invented in a first place suffered terribly long working days and just only earned themselves enough to survive…Those who lived well were people in power; that is partisans, regime artists and propagandists. All in all it was very much like the Nazi Germany…
He may be a bit over the top, but communism is bad. To take away the ability of people to determine how far they can advance their own condition in this life is wrong.
Capitalism has its flaws, but its the least worst method we’ve found for modern society. Under communism, one could flourish to an extent, but only as much as another deemed proper. That’s what people are against.
Some people, your history teacher included, apparently, allowed their perceptions to be colored by the stance against communism this and other countries took. For him to say that the individuals in those societies are bad IS wrong. The individuals had little choice in where they were born.
The system itself deserved scorn, not those who lived under it by no choice of their own.
Maybe he just lost loved ones in wars and/or a conflict?
Plus the commie way is full of oppression.
You need not be offended. I am in India. I learnt history too. Soviet Union wasn’t offended in uor syllabus, but the students both boys and girls felt USSR were not powerful when compared to the US.
I personally like the Soviet Union very much. I wish it had still existed. Morever, they helped my nation grow much. They had the guts to withstand America. American’s should try running their own country rather than running other nations. Look what they did to Iraq. And see how they are threatenning North Korea?
The Soviets didn’t even respect these Americans. They carried on with their own research and they had good technologies. They were self-reliant and they did everything themselves. I admire the Soviets very much.
I don’t know much about Communism. But I love the USSR very much.
